Tips #2 Squishy-Throwy Things

You will probably find that you need something that can be thrown around the classroom. It will serve two purposes. First, you can use it to throw around to select students to answer your questions. Second, and maybe more important, you can bounce it off the heads of students who aren't paying attention.

With that in mind it must meet certain criteria. It must be heavy enough to throw the length of the classroom but soft enough that it can't possibly hurt no matter how hard it hits someone. It must be cheap enough that if it gets thrown out of a window or destroyed it won't be expensive to replace. It's also important that it doesn't roll or bounce. When you throw it onto someone's desk it must hit the desk and stop.

I experimented with all sorts of things before I found the ideal squishy-throwy thing.

This kind of bathroom sponge costs next to nothing, comes in all sorts of colours, fits all the requirements and works perfectly.

My advice is to go out and buy a couple immediately.
